After having spent several years of my life as a user (to the point of homelessness), and surviving an abusive marriage I was weary about finding a church that would accept me for who I've been and who I was becoming (not your cookie cutter Christian). Also, I was weary of a "religious" place that wanted me for my money (or lack there of). My first time at Oasis was a little overwhelming (wasn't used to rocking out to Christian music), but I knew there was something about the vibe that intrigued me, and the messages were filled with truth and clarity that related to my life. I've been attending the Oasis for almost six years now, and am happy to call it home. Oasis is more than a church to me, it's a light in this dark town, and it's inspiration to live a life more fulfilling. This year alone, the Oasis has sponsored 21 wells in Africa, over 400 children with Food for the Hungry, built houses with Habitat for Humanity, brought Christmas to over 2,000 children in Watoto, and tons of other local and global initiatives. And, they've got the evidence to prove it (church members went themselves!) Also, all the videos are done by volunteers, not high paid professionals (although most work in the industry...we do live in LA). For the people weary of tithing or giving an offering, the Oasis has repeatedly said, "God loves a cheerful giver," key word, "cheerful." So if you feel you are being pressured, don't give. It may take more than one Sunday to figure this out. If you want to make a difference in the world, and a difference in your life, check out the Oasis. Before I leave you, a few tips: Give your self time to park, you don't want to miss the rocking worship. Dress is casual, jeans and a mohawk are welcome. Meet somebody. It's a big place, but people are friendly, so don't be shy! It may not be your "thing," so keep looking.

Pros: rocking worship, truthful messages

Cons: none

A member of my family joined this church a few years ago. I come from a born-again background so I fully understand what those types of churches ask of their followers, in fact I use to be very much into that belief system myself. What's really thrown me is seeing my family member go from a normal loving person to someone who is now disassociated with me because I don't see eye to eye with their beliefs. Many things this person has said have caught me off-guard, however when they told me a fellow church goer was making them dinners because my family member was working such long hours, that was the most major red flag. They work normal hours 9-6ish mon-fri. I'm all about helping out those in need...but to make a newly-wed couple(yes, after joining this church they decided to get married in their early 20's) dinners because they are 'stressed from working normal hours' is just too strange. There are plenty of needy people out there, but people who get paid well for working normal hours and are healthy are not in need.

Pros: gives lonely people comfort

Cons: very strange
